A Remarkable Day at the RateMyApprenticeship Awards
With a jam-packed agenda featuring inspiring speakers, a delicious lunch served in bento boxes and some well-deserved bottles of fizz, the fifth edition of the RateMyApprenticeship Awards was always destined for great things.
This year’s theme, ‘Remarkable Apprenticeships’, was chosen to celebrate the achievements of those apprentices, schools and colleges, employers and training providers who have been making waves in the apprenticeship market.
Over 350 stakeholders attended the event, which took place at etc.venues, County Hall, against the spectacular backdrop of the River Thames and Big Ben.
Back by popular demand, compère Tim Campbell MBE kicked off proceedings with a high-energy welcome speech. He soon had the audience getting into the spirit of things by taking selfies with their neighbours and clapping as loudly as Ibiza party-goers.
After RateMyApprenticeship’s co-founder, Oliver Sidwell, delivered his insightful presentation on the ‘Seven building blocks to quality apprenticeships’, guest speaker Jamala Osman took to the stage to tell her powerful personal story.
Becoming a Barclays apprentice helped Jamala turn her life around to become one of the youngest bank managers in the country. She is a fantastic reminder of exactly why employers need to continue to widen their talent pools through apprenticeship schemes.
Lunch was followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion with stakeholders from across the industry. They gave their thoughts on everything from how to prepare for the application process, to tackling the stigma that still plagues apprenticeships.
And then it was time for the main event… *drum roll please*...
The RateMyApprenticeship Awards Ceremony 2019!
Winners included Therfield School & Unilever for Best Collaboration between a School & Employer, as well as Mark Woodward from Bablake for his Outstanding Contribution to Apprenticeships. Through workshops, newsletters, employer presentations and more, Mark has worked tirelessly to promote the value of apprenticeships within his school. Kudos to you Mark!
As well as awarding apprentices, schools and employers, we unveiled a brand new table to acknowledge the exceptional work of Training Providers across the country. Lifetime Training Group Limited went straight to the top of the leaderboard on the Top 50 Training Providers 2019-2020.
We rounded off the day by announcing the hotly-anticipated Top 100 Employers Table 2019-20, to much whooping and cheering from all the employers in the audience.
A huge congratulations to MOTUS Commercials, whose first time entering the table saw them knock last year’s winner BAE Systems off the top spot! They were one of 32 new companies in this year’s table. This coveted title is extra special because it’s based solely on the 5,576 reviews submitted by apprentices on RateMyApprenticeship.co.uk.
