A new year, a new you? If you’re anything like me, you’ve written a list of 5-10 improvements or resolutions which you’ll routinely stick to for the next three or four weeks… and then forget about!
Sound about right?
Well for RateMyPlacement, a new year marks a new change... and one that will hopefully last for longer than three weeks!
We launched the website in 2007, allowing students to rate and review their experiences to better educate and inspire students following in their footsteps. Throughout the past 14 years, we’ve kept the review questions the same and focused them on the employer, less so universities.
70,000 reviews, over one million ratings and well over 15 million words later, it’s time for a change!
Today’s Generation Z student has a different expectation from their work experience. The focus on skill development has very much stayed, but we’ve removed the questions around nightlife and introduced new questions around culture, diversity and sustainability.
The honest nature of the comments in the feedback has also been incredibly helpful for employers too, getting a unique insight into how their cohorts have enjoyed their time with them and learning where they can improve.
The feedback has been primarily for students, with it directly benefiting employers too. But it hasn’t been directly helpful for universities. And given the extent of how universities have adapted and increased their focus around employability in the past 14 years, we felt the time was right to change all that!
Which resources at your university did you find most (and least) useful when looking for work experience?
How would you rate the resources available at your university when looking for work experience? - 1 = Poor, 5 = Excellent
How would you rate the support you received from your university when looking for work experience? - 1 = Poor, 5 = Excellent
Feedback - Hearing impartial reviews from students from universities is important. Understanding their point of view on the resources and support received will provide first-hand insights into their students and the work experience process. With work experience such an important contributing factor for students getting a graduate job and with the new Graduate Outcomes survey released in 2020, even greater importance is being placed on the destination of graduates by HESA.
Benchmarks - Every university wants to know how it compares to other universities. Rankings and tables define aims and objectives at Council level and we feel employability and work experience is under-represented. By collecting this data, we’ll be able to rank all universities from top to bottom in how well they’ve fared in terms of employability.
Good point! We will take the ratings across all questions of the review when calculating the university table - you can see all review questions below. The university that performs the best for employability will be subject to the following criteria across all reviews from students at their university in 2021.
In terms of timings:
Happy to answer any questions you may have. We’ve evolved RateMyPlacement.co.uk through building great relationships with universities and key university networks, so welcome any feedback you may have on this exciting new development.
Best of luck and looking forward to revealing the Top University for Work Experience at next years’ National Undergraduate Employability Awards!
