This year’s event took place at etc.venues in Bishopsgate, London, where we rolled out the red carpet for 500 of the industry’s finest...

The audience was treated to a full line-up of inspiring speakers, kicking off with our very own Emma Miles (Client Partner). Emma spoke passionately about the importance of understanding what students really think about Diversity & Inclusion - and how this can help businesses attract future talent.

She also shared some key learnings from our Diversity & Inclusion survey, throwing out a few jaw-dropping stats, such as how 95% of students said that D&I is very or extremely important in the workplace - but just under half don’t know why employers ask for diversity information.

Sign up to Emma’s webinar here to continue the conversation and find out what we learnt from our D&I Survey.

With Emma’s D&I stats fresh in our minds, we then heard from Sonya Barlow (CEO of Like Minded Females), who talked about bridging the gap between ‘book smart’ and ‘life smart’.

She covered a vast range of topical issues, whilst giving an insight into what careers officers and employers can do to help students gain the soft skills and confidence they need to succeed in the workplace.

After lunch, special guest speakers, The Tempest Two, transported us to a rowing boat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean…

“Ordinary guys” James and Tom had the whole room on the edge of their seats, as they told us of the daunting challenges they faced (and overcame) when rowing 3000 miles across a vast ocean and climbing the greatest rock in the world, El Capitan.

Despite being scared 99% of the time, the two realised that it is only when you push yourself out of your comfort zone that you spark innovation, growth and, ultimately, real change.

They left us all thinking: if those guys can go and do that, why can’t I go and achieve my own goals?

Filled to the brim with inspiration and chocolate brownies, we turned our attention to the Awards ceremony...

Big winners on the day included Siemens for the ‘Best Recruitment Marketing Campaign’ and Aston University, who picked up two awards for ‘Best University Careers / Employability Service’ and ‘Best Collaboration between a University & Employer’ with HSBC.

Other winners included Brunel University, who took home the trophy for ‘Best Widening Participation Initiative’, one of two new awards introduced for 2020. A whopping 90% of students on their Summer Internship Programme said the programme has had a direct impact on their future career goals.

A special mention must also go to ‘Best Placement Student’ Benjamin Dickinson. Not only did Benjamin win SAP’s internal ‘Placement of the Year’ Award, he also directly delivered over £2 million in revenue. An outstanding achievement!

We rounded off proceedings by revealing the Top 100 Employers table, with Citi taking the crown for Top Undergraduate Employer 2020-2021. This coveted accolade is based solely on student-written reviews submitted to RateMyPlacement.co.uk, so hats off to them!
